A reporter from the nonprofit Sixth Tone visited one of the company’s largest production sites in China and spoke with dozens of factory owners and workers. She found that working conditions were poor, and there was little oversight of the production process. Many suppliers to Shein cut costs by subcontracting work to small workshops in rundown “handshake” buildings or dense residential areas. The company has also failed to disclose its policies or how much of its supply chain is audited.
It steals designs from smaller businesses.
Several small businesses and artists have accused Shein of stealing their designs and filed lawsuits against the company. Bailey Prado, a c, rochet artist, and handmade clothing designer, is one such designer. Bailey claims that Shein has copied twenty of her designs without her permission. The retailer also copied her product styling, creative direction, and the entire look and feel of her clothing line. Several small businesses and artists have taken to social media to condemn Shein’s unethical behavior.
Shein’s name and logo are “false” copyright management information. The company’s name and logo falsely identify it as the owner of copyrights and the author of the designs. This falsely implies that Shein owns the original artwork.
It doesn’t send you a return label.
